Fred Jarvis, Mayor of Taylor, accepts the LiveSmart BC Green Cities Award from Premier Gordon Campbell and Blair Lekstrom, Minister of Community Development.

DISTRICT OF TAYLOR - Winner

Notable highlights of their nomination include:

  • engaged in high subsidization of swimming lessons, skating, junior golf, and other youth activity programs. They have also fully subsidized brush and snow removal services for the elderly, while decreasing senior’s utility rates by 50 per cent;
  • completed energy efficiency retrofits to many municipal buildings including solar heating of water treatment facility;
  • banned cardboard from the municipal waste stream; and
  • ordering 15,000 seedlings.

Notable highlights of their nomination include:

  • built a multi-use community centre incorporating a high degree of sustainable planning and green building principles; and
  • planting 2,000 trees.
